CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia volleyball team kept pace with Florida State and North Carolina atop the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 3-0 victory over the Duke Blue Devils. The Cavaliers defeated the Blue Devils in three consecutive games by the scores of 15-9, 15-6 and 15-9 in front of 292 spectators at Memorial Gymnasium. The win was UVa’s second this year over Duke, giving Virginia the series sweep this season. The Cavaliers defeated the Blue Devils 3-0 (15-13, 15-7, 16-14) in Durham, N.C. on September 27.

Virginia was paced by setter Mary Frances Scott, recorded a match-high 46 assists and 19 digs. The Cavaliers had four players gather double figure totals in kills led by Jessica Parsons (14 kills, 11 digs) and Andrea Fischer (14 kills, 4 digs). Claire Folga (12 kills, 16 digs) and Katie Jones (10 kills, 11 digs) came up big for UVa in the 3-0 victory. Amanda Wells and Kristi Winters added 10 and seven digs, respectively.

The Blue Devils were highlighted by outside hitter Sarah Peifer, who tallied 12 digs and 11 kills. Peifer was Duke’s only player to record double figures in kills. Setter Pam Gottfred dished-out 13 assists in the 3-0 loss.

With the victory, Virginia’s record improves to 23-6 overall, 10-4 in the ACC. The loss drops Duke’s record to 9-18 overall, 4-11 in the conference.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, (Nov. 14) when Virginia hosts the Florida State Seminoles. The match is schedule for 7:00 p.m. and will be played at Memorial Gymnasium.
