COLLEGE PARK, MD — Michelle Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex)’s goal, eight minutes into the Championship game, helped the Elite White team close out the inaugural season of the United States Field Hockey Association’s Summer League undefeated and finish as the champions of the league.

The first-team All-American, who is a member of the United States National team, scored on a blast from just inside the circle to give the White team the 1-0 lead they would not relinquish. The White defense, led by Virginia assistant coach Katie Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.), shut out the high-scoring Green team, which lead the League in scoring at 4.0 goals per game, en route to the championship. Representing Virginia on the Green team was Frances West (Alexandria, Va./T. C. Williams), a member of the United States Under-23 team.

In the consolation game, the Elite Red team took the bronze with a 2-0 defeat of the Elite Blue team. Two members of the Cavaliers played in the game as Meredith Elwell (Moorestown, N.J./ Moorestown) played for Blue and Laura Lindsay (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) played ffor Red. Both Lindsay and Elwell are members of the United States Under-23 squad. Elwell had a goal in the semifinal against Vizzuso’s White team but it was not enough as the White team advanced to the final by defeating the Blue squad 2-1.
