Women's Basketball Falls to Penn State

RUSTON, La. (AP) – Substitute Maren Walseth scored 22 points, Helen Darlingscored 21 and Penn State outshot Virginia 27-11 from the foul line ineliminating the Lady Cavaliers 82-69 in the first round of the women’s NCAAtournament West Regional on Friday night.
Lisa Shepherd added 13 points and Shawnta Vanzant had 11 for Penn State(22-7).
Virginia (20-9) was led by Monick Foote with 13 points, Erin Stovall with 12and DeMya Walker with 11.
Each team made 53 percent of its field goal attempts and Penn State held a13-3 edge on free throws in the first half, which ended with the Lady NittanyLions leading 47-40.
Penn State then had a 14-8 foul shooting advantage in the second half asVirginia cooled from 53 percent (16-of-30) to 9-for-28 from the field.
