Women's Basketball to Play Nationally Televised Games

The 1998-99 University of Virginia womens basketball team will play two games on ESPN2 and will host Brown, Marist and Auburn in a tournament on Dec. 28-29. The Cavaliers host Baylor in the ACC-Big 12 Challenge on Jan. 24 and will play at North Carolina on Feb. 14 on ESPN2. The two-day holiday tournament in December will be the first time since 1994 that Virginia has hosted a tournament.
The Cavaliers will play two exhibition games on Nov. 5 and Nov. 9 and then open the 1998-99 regular season on the road at West Virginia on Nov. 15. The home opener for Virginia is Nov. 24 against Virginia Commonwealth. Other non-conference opponents include Arkansas State, California, Virginia Tech, Towson, Radford.
The ACC slate begins with an early season contest at home vs. Wake Forest on Dec. 4 with the conference schedule resuming on the road on Jan. 2 at Clemson.
The Cavaliers finished the season with a 19-10 mark overall and a 9-7 record in the ACC. Virginia returns three starters from a team that reached the second round of the 1998 NCAA Tournament. Virginia finished the season ranked 17th in the AP poll and 23rd in the USA Today poll
