ATLANTA (AP) – Erin Stovall scored a career-high 27 points and Lesley Brownadded 20 Thursday night as No. 17 Virginia defeated Georgia Tech, 86-73.

Virginia coach Debbie Ryan, in her 22nd year with the Cavaliers, reachedcareer victory number 499. She will go for 500 on Sunday at home againstFlorida State.

Virginia (18-7, 11-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) went on a 19-9 run to take a39-30 lead on Erin Stovall’s layup with 27 seconds left in the first half.Niesha Butler’s 3-pointer at the buzzer brought Tech (13-12, 6-9) within 39-33at halftime.

Butler’s basket pulled Tech within 47-42 at 15:40 of the second half. ButBrown hit two jump shots to extend the lead to 51-42 at 14:34, and Tech nevergot closer than seven after that.

Butler led Tech with 27 points but committed eight of her team’s 18turnovers. In addition, Tech made just 13 of 25 at the free throw line.

Virginia leads the series against Tech 40-4, dating back to 1979-80.
