Women's Hoops Falls to Auburn, 79-61

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Tasha Hamilton scored 20 points and Auburncontrolled the boards to beat No. 22 Virginia 79-61 Tuesday night for thechampionship of the Nationwide Cavalier Classic.
Auburn (9-2) never trailed after the first two minutes of the game and led32-25 at the half. The Cavaliers (7-3) pulled within 51-48 on Erin Stovall’s3-pointer with 10:38 left, but Auburn went on a 23-11 run to put the game outof reach.
Hamilton and Erin McGinnis each scored eight points during the spurt.
Conswella Sparrow scored 16 points for Auburn, which outrebounded Virginia40-23.
Stovall led the Cavaliers with 17 points, Monick Foote added 16 and DeMyaWalker 15 for Virginia.
