CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s soccer team has been picked No. 6 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in its 1998 preseason poll. The Cavaliers’, who posted a 14-5-2 record last season, are one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams to be ranked in the top 25, along with No. 1 North Carolina, No. 10 Duke, No. 14 Clemson and No. 18 Maryland.

Virginia will face a total of 10 teams which are ranked in the preseason poll. In addition to North Carolina, Duke, Clemson and Maryland, the Cavaliers are set to take on No. 7 Portland, No.13 William & Mary, No. 21 George Mason, No. 23 Vanderbilt and No. 25 Penn State.

Virginia returns eight starters from last year’s squad, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Including among the returning players are All-Americans Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Karem Esteva (Westport, Conn.).
