Women's Softball Loses Doubleheader to Liberty University

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team dropped a pair of games to Liberty in a doubleheader at Liberty University Softball Field. The Cavaliers fell 2-0 in game-one, before the Flames rallied in the sixth inning to steal the nightcap 1-0.
Cory Bolkan pitched game-one for Virginia, striking out one batter while scattering four hits. The Cavaliers recorded six hits in the game, highlighted by Meaghan Young (3-4) and Karen Breshears (2-3, double), but were unable to score a run in the game. Kelly McCabe (1-2) added a single in the loss.
In game-two, Chrisy Quinn took the mound for UVa. She collected seven strikeouts and allowed five hits in her outing. At the plate, Virginia posted five hits led by Lori Reese (2-3). Stacy Holmes (1-3), Breshears (1-3) and Young (1-3, double) each added hits in the defeat.
With the losses, Virginia’s record drops to (19-17) overall. The Cavaliers will travel to Richmond, Va. to compete in the Sports Plus Collegiate Classic. Virginia is scheduled to play Hampton (10:00 a.m.), Chattanooga (12:00 p.m.) and East Carolina (6:00 p.m.) on Friday, (Mar. 27), and will compete in the Classic finals on Saturday, (Mar. 28). The time schedule for the final games has yet to be determined.
