BOCA RATON, Fla.- Off to their best start in over a decade, the University ofVirginia women’s tennis team continued its successful spring break tripwith a 9-0 shutout of Florida Atlantic Tuesday in Boca Raton, Fla. The winimproved the Cavaliers’ record to 8-2, their best mark after 10 matchessince going 8-2 in 1987-88. Florida Atlantic falls to 3-11 on the year.

The Cavaliers had very little difficulty downing the homestanding Owls,winning all but one set. Senior co-captain Stacy Gingold was extended tothree sets before defeating Gaelle Adda 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 to end a three-matchlosing streak.

Freshman Amy O’Donnell held on as the team’s leading winner with her 21stwin of the year. She took Carolina Gallo in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.Sophomore Christie Schweer gained her 20th win of the season wtih a 6-1,6-2 win over Michelle Tulman.

Virginia completed the shutout by sweeping the doubles.

The Cavaliers open their ACC schedule Saturday at Florida State at 9:30 a.m.
