TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Virginia volleyball team faced a strong Florida State squad at Tully Gymnasium. The Cavaliers fell to the Seminoles in three consecutive games by the scores of 15-1, 15-12 and 15-5. It marks only the fourth time the Cavaliers have been defeated in 20 contests this season, and only the second time UVa has lost by a count of 3-0.

Virginia was paced by setter Mary Frances Scott, who gathered a team-high 32 assists to add with four digs. Deanna Zwarich was the lone Cavalier to record double figures in kills, as she posted a team-high 10 kills to go along with two blocks. Katie Jones recorded a match-high 10 digs to add with eight kills. Jessica Parsons posted eight kills, two blocks and one dig while teammates Andrea Fischer (4 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks) and Claire Folga (6 digs, 4 kills, 1 block) contributed for UVa in the loss.

Florida State led by Fiona Bolten (38 assists, 10 digs) and Jennifer Werrick (12 kills) in the win.

The loss drops Virginia’s record to 16-4 overall, 5-3 in the ACC. Florida State improves to 15-7 overall, 4-3 in the conference. UVa will return to action on Saturday, (Oct. 17) when the Cavaliers travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to face the Jacksonville Dolphins. The match will be held at Swisher Gymnasium and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
