CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – University of Virginia head volleyball coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton announced that two high school athletes have accepted their offer of admission to the University and will play for the Cavaliers.

The players are Blair Miller from Birmingham, Mich., and Kristin Sherwood from Hagerstown, Md.

Miller (5-10), an outside hitter at Seaholm high school, lettered three times in volleyball and was selected as a first-team All-Region, All-County and All-Conference player her senior year. She was a member of the USA Michigan club team that won the 1998 East Coast Champions. Miller served as the team captain at Seaholm her junior and senior year.

“Blair is an extremely skilled and versatile volleyball player,” said Aldrich Shelton. “We expect her to have an immediate impact on our defensive and serve receive play. We are very fortunate that she chose Virginia over several others school that were recruiting her and we know she will be one of the hardest workers on the court.”

Sherwood (6-2), a middle blocker/outside hitter at North Hagerstown high school, lettered twice in volleyball and was named an All-Area, All-County and All-Monacacy League first-team selection in 1997. She was also named the All-County Player of the Year. Sherwood played on the Washington County Juniors club team and lettered three times in basketball and once in softball at North Hagerstown.

“We are very glad that Kristin decided to join our team. Her height and athleticism, combined with her desire to succeed, will add a lot of strength to our outside hitter position. We look for Kristin to come in and push our returners to new levels while challenging for a starting position herself.”
