HAMPTON, Va. – Virginia senior Matt Roth (Wescosville, Pa./Parkland) becameVirginia’s all-time leader in career pins as he pinned Rider’s RichDelgado 2:42 into the first period today, giving him 21 career pins.

It was Roth’s fourth pin of the season and it gave the Cavaliers anearly 6-0 lead against #18 Rider, but the Cavaliers lost 8 of the nextnine matches and fell to their ranked opponent 27-9.

Jason Bernd (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) lost at 133 and P. J. Bory(Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) lost at 141, to tie the match at 6-6, but JohnPozniak (State College, Pa./State College) defeated his opponent 11-6in the 149-pound bout to push the Cavaliers ahead 9-6. But the Broncswon the last six bouts to take the match 27-9.

Roth’s pin moves him in front of former Cavalier great Howie Miller, whorecorded 20 pins from 1992-93 and 1995-96.

With the loss, the Cavaliers fall to 3-3-1 on the season. They will face ACC rivalNorth Carolina in Chapel Hill on Friday, Jan. 15 and travel toNorfolk, Va. to take on in-state rival Old Dominion on Saturday, Jan.16.
