CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Amy Fromal (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) andMia Mooney (Rosemont, Pa./Shipley) were both named to the IWLCA(Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association) Academic Squad.Both receive this honor for the first time in their careers.

Fromal was also named a first-team All-American by the IWLCA forthe first time this season. Primarily a defensive wing, she is a keyingredient to the defensive success as she is first on the team in groundballs with 98 and is third in caused turnovers with 36. Her 11 assistsranks 10th all-time at Virginia for assists as a junior. Her 13 goals and11 assists are both career highs, coming in a season where she was countedon to anchor the defense for the Cavaliers. Fromal also has onegame-winning goal on the season and had the game-winning goal against Dukein the NCAA semifinals. A third-team All-American in 1998, Fromal alsoranks sixth on the team in scoring this season.

Mooney, one of this year’s tri-captains, was an IWLCA All-Americanin 1998 and ranked fourth on the team in scoring. Mooney, a studio artmajor, was honored earlier this season as she hosted an art show at theUniversity of Virginia’s Fayerweather Gallery.
