CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A 1999-2000 men’s basketball schedule featuring a trip to the Puerto Rico Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has been released by University of Virginia Athletic Director Terry Holland. Virginia is scheduled to play four games against in-state opponents during the 1999-2000 season.

The Cavaliers open their 1999-2000 season with games at home against non-conference opponents Elon College (Nov. 19) and Virginia Military Institute (Nov. 21) before competing in the Puerto Rico Shootout November 25-27. UVa plays the University of South Carolina in the first round of the tournament. Other teams participating in the tournament include American University of Puerto Rico, Arizona State University, DePaul University, Michigan State University, Providence College and the University of Texas.

Virginia plays eight games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents at home and also faces non-conference opponents Loyola College (Md.), Belmont University and Dartmouth College at University Hall in addition to Elon and Virginia Military Institute.

In addition to the Puerto Rico Shootout, the Cavaliers’ road schedule features games with UVa’s eight ACC rivals, a neutral site game with Virginia Tech in Richmond (Jan. 24), and games at the University of Minnesota (ACC/Big 10 Challenge), St. John’s University (Madison Square Garden), Hampton University and the University of Richmond.

The 47th annual ACC Tournament is scheduled for March 9-12 in Charlotte, N.C.
