Women's Cross Country Takes Third At ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Virginia’s Jennifer Owens (Charlottesville,Va./Albemarle) finished fourth and teammate Sarah Folse (Fredericksburg,Va./Chancellor) took seventh to help the Virginia women’s cross countryteam finish third at the 1999 ACC Cross Country Championships held at theUniversity of North Carolina today. The Cavaliers amassed 77 points tosecure the third spot behind champion North Carolina (44) and NorthCarolina State (56), who had the individual champion in ChristyNichols.Both Owens and Folse were named All-ACC. This is Owens’ secondconsecutive All-ACC honor while it is Folse’s first time to be so honored.

On the men’s side, Virginia’s Bobby Thiele (Charlottesville,Va./Charlottesville) took fifth place and was named an All-ACC performerfor the second consecutive year. His fifth place finish prevented the NCState Wolfpack from claiming the top five spots en route to thechampionship.

The Cavaliers will return to action in two weeks to compete in theNCAA Southeast Regional on November 13 in Greenville, SC.
