CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s basketball teamwill open its 1999-2000 season with an exhibition game against the DownUnder Bandits Thursday night (November 4) at University Hall. The game isscheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Cavaliers return four starters and nine lettermen from lastyear’s team, including Chris Williams (Birmingham, Ala.), the 1998-99Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Year. Williams, a 6-7forward, was recently named to the 1999-2000 pre-season All-ACC secondteam. The game will mark the beginning of Pete Gillen’s second season asUVa’s head coach and the first game for Virginia’s highly-regarded recruits.

The exhibition will be the second of a nine-game American tour forthe Bandits, who compete out of Albury, Australia. The tour includes gamesagainst ACC opponents Maryland, North Carolina, Duke, and Clemson as wellas Penn State, Temple, Villanova and defending national championConnecticut.

Tickets for the game are available at the ticket office atUniversity Hall. All tickets are general admission and cost $4 for adultsand $2 for youth 18-and-under. The Cavaliers play their only otherexhibition game on November 10 when they host the Nantucket NectarsNaturals at University Hall. UVa opens its regular season at home againstElon College on November 19.
