CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of Virginia third year Brian Hunter (ChapelHill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and first year Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach,Va./Norfolk Academy) advanced through the double qualifying tournament tojoin three teammates in the Main Draw of the Top of the Hill ITA Region IIIndoor Championships Thursday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on thecampus of the University of North Carolina. Hunter and Duquette joinfourth year John Winter (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher’s) and third yearTommy Crocker (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens) in the doubles main draw.Crocker, Winter and third year Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./ChapelHill) will all represent Virginia in Main Draw Singles play.

Duquette and Hunter advanced to the Main Draw by defeating East TennesseeState’s Juan Yanuzzi and Marcos Pavlovich 8-4 on Thursday. They are one offour doubles teams to advance from the qualifying tournament to the MainDraw. After receiving a bye in Wednesday morning’s first round, Duquetteand Hunter beat Charlie Briggs and Mehdy Karbid of William & Mary 8-3 inWednesday evening’s second round. In the Main Draw, Duquette and Hunterwill play Winthrop’s Leite and Kawasaki at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Winter and Crocker earned an automatic bid into Main Draw Doubles play,while Winter, Crocker and Montgomery earned automatic bids in the Main DrawSingles competition. All three players begin competition on Friday.

The 1999 Top of the Hill/ITA Region II Indoor Championships will becontested from Wednesday, November 3, through Monday, November 8. Playersare competing from 45 Region II schools, including all nine Atlantic CoastConference schools. The top two finishers in both singles and doublesautomatically qualify for the 2000 Rolex National Indoor Championships, thethird leg of the ITA Grand Slam, which will be held February 3-6, inDallas, Texas.
