INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Virginia volleyball team hasreceived a bid to the 64-team 1999 NCAA Championship as announced tonight.The Cavaliers will face Arizona in the first round of the tournament onDecember 2 or 3, at the University of Texas, in Austin, Texas. The bidmarks the second-consecutive year that UVa has been extended an invitationto the tournament. It is also just the second NCAA appearance for Virginia.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be playing in the NCAA Tournament. The teamhas worked extremely hard to be in this position and it is nice to see thathard work pay off,” said fifth-year head coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton.

Virginia finished the regular season with a 19-11 overall record and a 9-7mark in the ACC. The Wildcats are currently ranked 19th in the country andare 19-10 overall and 12-6 in the PAC-10.

In their first ever appearance in the NCAA Championship in 1998, theCavaliers lost to UCLA 3-1 (15-7, 15-6, 14-16, 15-5) in the first round inSanta Barbara, California.
