CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia accepted an invitation todayto participate in the 1999 Micronpc.com Bowl in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.The Cavaliers will face Big 10 representative, Illinois, at Pro PlayerStadium on Dec. 30. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will betelevised nationally on TBS.

The Cavaliers tied Clemson and Georgia Tech for second in the ACC with a5-3 ACC record and were 7-4 overall. The Fighting Illini were 7-4 overallthis season and tied for sixth in the Big 10 with a 4-4 league mark.

“We’re happy to be in the Micronpc.com Bowl this year,” said Virginia headcoach George Welsh. “It’s a great reward for us and we’re certainly lookingforward to it. I know the team will be excited about it. We’ll have a goodteam there, we’ll have all our injured players back.”

This marks the 13th consecutive season Virginia has won at least sevengames, making the program one of four in the nation with such a streak.Florida State, Michigan and Nebraska are the only other schools in thenation with a streak as long as Virginia’s.

This is Virginia’s third appearance in this bowl game. The Cavaliers lostto Boston College 31-13 following the 1993 season and fell to Miami (Fla.)31-21 three years ago. Virginia is making its 11th bowl appearance overallthis season.

Virginia and Illinois have met just once before with the Fighting Illinigaining a 31-21 win in the Florida Citrus Bowl following the 1989 season.
