CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Virginia volleyball team willplay the University of Arizona on Thursday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. EasternTime in the first round of the 64-team 1999 NCAA Championship at GregoryGymnasium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. TheCavaliers are making their second-consecutive appearance in the NCAATournament under fifth-year head coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton.

Following the UVa-Arizona match, host and 15th-ranked Texas plays Houstonwith the two winners squaring off in the second round on Friday, December 3at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The winner will advance to the NCAA Regionalsin Palo Alto, California, December 9-11.

Virginia finished the regular season with a 19-11 overall record and a 9-7mark in the ACC. The Wildcats are currently ranked 19th in the country andare 19-10 overall and 12-6 in the Pac-10. Arizona is making its 15thappearance in the NCAA Tournament and fourth consecutive.

In their first ever appearance in the NCAA Championship in 1998, theCavaliers lost to UCLA 3-1 (15-7, 15-6, 14-16, 15-5) in the first round inSanta Barbara, California.
