CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA

According to University of Virginia team physician Dr. Frank C. McCue III, defensive back Anthony Poindexter has a torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee. Poindexter will require surgery and will miss the remainder of the regular season.

Poindexter suffered the injury with 5:52 left in the fourth quarter of Virginia’s 23-13 win over North Carolina State yesterday in Charlottesville.

McCue indicates that no other injuries could be determined due to soreness and swelling in Poindexter’s leg and knee. “I could not find any damage to his cartilage or other ligamentous structures due to the swelling and soreness, but I was able to diagnose the instability in Anthony’s lateral collateral ligament at the time of injury. It was also evident Sunday,” said McCue. “Anthony will have x-rays and an MRI Monday to determine the extent of his injury.”
