ATHENS, Ga. – University of Virginia first-year diver Alison Sharp (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) finished eighth in the three-meter diving competition with 431.55 points at Georgia Diving Invitational this evening at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Sharp’s 431.55-point performance in the finals qualified her for the NCAADiving Regionals March 10-11 at Auburn University. Sharp began the daywith a score of 381.55 points in the preliminaries and scored 166.85 pointsin the semifinals. Third-year Courtney Colbert (Brown Deer, Wisc./RufusKing) finished 10th with a score of 424.50 points in the finals forVirginia. Colbert also qualified for NCAA Diving Regionals with her prelimscore of 429.20 points, the eight-best score of the round. She alsotallied 160.95 points in the semis. Cavalier second-year Nicole Triden(Deephaven, Minn./Minnetonka) scored 346 points in the preliminaries, butdid not advance. Miami’s Katie Beth Bryant won the three-meter competitionwith 552.45 points.

In the men’s one-meter diving competition, second-year Joe Piorkowski(Easton, Pa./Easton) placed 11th with a score of 403.35 points. Piorkowskitotaled 378.95 points in the prelims and 155.90 points in the semifinals.UVa first-year Matt LaConte (Chesire, Conn./Chesire) scored 371.35 pointsin the preliminaries, but did not qualify for the semifinals. StefanAhrens of Miami won the one-meter diving with 588.95 points.

The Georgia Diving Invitational concludes on Sunday with platform divingbeginning at 11:00 a.m.
