PHILADELPHIA — The University of Virginia track and field team traveledto the Penn Relays this weekend where eight Virginia athletes placed in thetop five in their respective events. Sarah Folse (Fredericksburg,Va./Chancellor) finished first in the women’s 3000m with a section-besttime of 9:36.01. This was a season-best performance for Folse. TeammateHillary Wilson (East Claridon, Ohio/Hawken) also took first place honors inthe discus event with a winning throw of 47.82 (156-11). Brian Kollar(Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) secured second-place honors in thejavelin throw, with a throw of 70.76 (232-02).

Relays turned out to be a strong suit for the Cavaliers thisweekend as the women’s distance medley, composed of Frances Warner (FortDrum, N.Y./Carthage Central), Carielle Doe (Reston, Va./South Lakes),Micheline Diakite (Alexandria, Va./ T.C. Williams), and Folse posted an11:35.26 mark, good for third place. The men’s 4×800 relay squad of MattAntunes (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Stephen Gross (Port Matilda, Pa./StateCollege), Bill Palmer (Stafford, Va./Stafford), and Rob Pearce(Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) recorded a 7:30.04 mark to finish fourth.

The men’s 4×200 team also made a strong showing, finishing third in theirheat at 1:26.22. The team was composed of Marion Mason (Ft. Belvoir,Va./Hayfield), Raphael Delgado (Centreville,Va./Centreville), Scott Kimball(Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Ryn) and Rauhn Turner (Neshanic, N.J./St.Benedict’s).

Bill Johnston (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) took fourth in themen’s hammer throw, setting a new school record with a throw of 57.88(189-11). Kiamesha Otey also turned in an impressive fifth-place finish inthe long jump, with a 5.47 (17-11.25) final jump. Dana Coons (Vienna,Va./James Madison) also turned in an impressive 35:41.31 in the women’s10,000m setting a new personal season best.
