OPELIKA, Ala. – Virginia senior James Driscoll shot a four-under par and is in a three-way tie for third place after the first round of the NCAA Golf Championship at the Grand National Golf Club. At press time, he was three strokes back of tournament leader J.J. Wall of Texas. Driscoll is tied for third with J. Hendry of New Mexico and Matt Kuchar of Georgia Tech.

The Cavaliers finished the first round in 28th place with an 11-over par round of 299. Texas is the team leader at 11-under par (198) through the 12th hole.

After the first round, Virginia’s Steve Marino shot three-over par (75), Cameron Yancey finished four-over par (76), Justin Goodhue finished eight-over (80) and Mike Mitchell finished at 12-over (84).
