CHARLOTTESVILLE– – The University of Virginia men’s basketball team is ranked among the top 30 teams in the nation in three preseason rankings for the 2000-2001 season.

Virginia is ranked 18th by The Sporting News, 23rd by Basketball News and 27th by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.

The Cavaliers have four starters returning from last year’s 19-12 team that tied for third in the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season standings and participated in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The returning starters include junior guard/forward Adam Hall (10.1 ppg., 4.8 rpg), senior guard Donald Hand (15.0 ppg., 4.3 apg.), sophomore forward/center Travis Watson (11.4 ppg., 8.3 rpg.) and junior forward Chris Williams (15.5 ppg., 6.1 rpg.).

Virginia opens its 2000-2001 regular season at home on November 17 against Long Island University.
