Top-ranked Maryland defeated the Cavaliers 5-0 today at University Hall Turf Field. Virginia’s Becky Worthington (Fairview Village, Pa./Methacton) made 13 saves to help the Cavaliers, but the Terps got four goals in the first half to record the win. Autumn Welsh recorded the game-winner just ten minutes into the game as she converted a penalty stroke at the 25:43 mark of the game. Three other Terrapins also recorded goals in the first half as Maryland outshot the Hoos 9-2 in the first half. The Cavaliers hung tough in the second half, thanks to a nine-save performance by Worthington. The Terrapins got off 13 shots but only scored on one, making the final score 5-0. Virginia returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4 as the Hoos host the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth. Game time is 7:00 pm at the Turf Field.
