Lorraine Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) scored a goal in the final minute of the first half of play but it was not enough as the Cavaliers fell to the #2 UNC Tar Heels 3-1.
The Heels got on the board quickly with two goals in the first six minutes of play and added a third goal with just over three minutes to play in the first half to take a 3-1 lead, but Vizzuso ended the shutout bid with a stickback of a Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) corner shot in the final minute. Becky Worthington (Fairview Village, Pa./Methacton) made eight saves for the Cavaliers.
With the loss, the Cavaliers drop to 3-2 overall. Today’s game does not count in the ACC standings. Virginia returns to action on Sunday as they travel to Norfolk to take on the Old Dominion Monarchs. Game time on the 24th is 1:00 pm.
