A pair of Cavaliers who achieved career rankings of #7 on the all-time Virginia charts helped the Hoos defeat the #13 William & Mary Tribe by a score of 6-1. Lorraine Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) moved into seventh place all-time on the Cavaliers scoring charts with her three points tonight, giving her 85 for her career. Becky Worthington (Fairview Village, Pa./Methacton) also moved to #7 all-time with her six saves, giving her 232 for her career. Virginia jumped out on top early as Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) rocketed a corner shot that hit off the goalie into the upper portion of the cage just 3:55 into the game. She was assisted on the play by Carrie Goodloe (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) and Julia Richardson (Altanta, Ga./Stone Ridge). The Cavaliers then exploded for four goals in a seven-minute span. Goodloe scored the second goal with a chip to the top of the cage off a pass from Vizzuso at the 20:58 mark of the period. Three minutes later Katie Slocum (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) hit the post on her shot, but Vizzuso deposited the ball off the rebound into the back of the cage. Virginia got a corner a minute later and Coleman again rocketed a shot to the boards, assisted by Richardson and Goodloe. Three minutes later Goodloe scored her second goal of the night by taking the ball along the endline, eluding the goalie, and scoring, giving the Cavaliers a 5-0 lead. Virginia took a 6-0 lead ten minutes into the second half as Rosie Walker (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) stuck back her own rebound, scoring her first goal of the season. The Tribe got on the scoreboard two minutes later as Kristen Southerland scored off a pass from Ann Ekberg on a scramble in front of the cage. Worthington gave way to Emily White (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) with 14:34 to play in the second half, and White made one save to keep her goals-against average perfect on the season. The Cavaliers continue their homestand with a tilt against the Terrapins of Maryland on Sunday. Game time is at 2:00.
