The Cavalier defense held its own for their second consecutive game as Virginia shut out Richmond 3-0 today in Richmond. The Cavaliers have now not allowed a goal in the last 155:18. Carrie Goodloe’s (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) goal six minutes into the game put the Hoos ahead for good and helped Virginia win its second consecutive game.

Virginia forced a corner just five minutes into the contest and Goodloe pounced on a loose ball in the circle and punched it home to put the Hoos on the scoreboard. Twenty-two minutes later the Cavaliers forced another corner which was converted this time by Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) off an assist by Katie Jo Gerfen (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). Virginia led at the break 2-0.

The Spiders missed an opportunity to slice the lead in half as Greer took a chip shot that was deflected by Becky Worthington (Fairview Village, Pa./Methacton). The Cavaliers roared right back as on the counter-attack Lorraine Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) sent a ball to the top of the circle from the left corner that was collected by Kelli Hill (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan Hill). Hill deposited the ball in the right corner of the cage to give the Cavaliers a 3-0 lead that would remain throughout the rest of the game.

Worthington finished with eight saves, all c oming in the second half.

Virginia returns to action tomorrow as they host the Northwestern Wildcats at the University Hall Turf Field. Game time is 4:00 pm.
