Becky Worthington (Fairview Village, Pa./Methacton) stopped a West Chester penalty stroke 12 minutes into the contest and denied the Golden Rams on all their other attempts to boost the Cavaliers to a 1-0 defeat of West Chester 1-0 today in a game played at Temple. Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) scored on a penalty corner with 4:06 to play in the first half to give the Cavaliers all the offense they would need.

Coleman’s goal, the 30th of her career, came off assists from Carrie Goodloe (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) and Julia Richardson (Atlanta, Ga./Stone Ridge). Goodloe’s assist was the 29th of her career, moving into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time assists chart at UVA.

The Cavaliers outshot the Golden Rams 13-4, including allowing no shots in the second half. Worthington saved each of the attempts, giving her 250 career saves.

Virginia faces Ursinus tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 8 in a game to be played at Villanova University. Game time against the Bears is 12:00.
