DALTON, Ga. – The University of Virginia golf team finished 15th at the 54-hole Carpet Capital Classic at the Farm in Rocky Face, Georgia. Georgia Tech recorded a one stroke victory over Clemson in the team competition that was played under cold and windy conditions. The Yellow Jackets finished with a three-day total of 6-over-par 870. Georgia Tech had a one shot lead on the final hole, and won as Clemson’s Lucas Glover missed a birdie putt that would have sent the event to a playoff.

The Cavaliers posted a score of 319 on the third day of competition and finished the tournament with a three-day score of 917. Virginia’s Cameron Yancey (Blackstone, Va.) tied for 23rd in the individual competition with a score of 222. The senior turned in rounds of 69-73-80. Kyle Thompson of South Carolina won the individual competition with an eight under par total of 208. Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech placed second (211) and Nick Cassini of Georgia finished third (212).

Also competing in the tournament for Virginia were junior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va., 76, 82, 75- 233), freshman Rusty Kennedy (Phoenix, Ariz., 75, 77, 84-236), senior Mike Mitchell (Chevy Chase, Md., 79, 77, 80- 236), and sophomore Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn., 74, 77, 86-237).
