STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Cavaliers fourth-year tennis player Brian Vahaly (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) is still alive in his attempt to reach the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships after defeating the No. 15 seed in the tournament, Adam Carey from Tennessee, 6-1, 6-1.

Vahaly, the tournament’s top seed, advances to face California’s JP Fruttero in a quarterfinal match Saturday (October 14) at 10:00 a.m.

In the meantime, Vahaly and his doubles partner and Virginia teammate Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) are scheduled to play a first round doubles match against Texas’ Ronald Kloppert and Jean Simon Friday afternoon (October13). If Vahaly and Montgomery advance, they could play a second round match and a quarterfinal match later today. .
