DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Cameron Yancey led Virginia to a ninth place finish in the Duke Golf Classic in Durham, N.C. on Oct. 16. N. C. State won the tournament with a team score of 12 over par 876. Augusta State tied with Duke for second place with a 16 over par 880. Virginia finished the tournament with a team score of 38 over par 902 on the par-72 Duke Golf Club course.

Brent Wanner of Wake Forest won the individual competition with a five under par total of 211 after rounds of 75-65-71. Chris Mundorf of N.C. State finished second with a three under par total of 213 with rounds of 72-73-68. Yancey (Blackstone, Va.) tied for seventh in the individual competition. He had rounds of 74-68-75 for a one over par total of 217.

Also competing for Virginia were senior Mike Mitchell (Chevy Chase, Md., 73-74-80-227), sophomore Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va., 72-81-78-231), sophomore Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn., 78-75-81-234), and junior Shivin Kwatra (New Delhi, India, 82-76-79-237).

Virginia competes next in their final fall tournament in the East Regional Preview in Williamsburg, Va., October 23 and 24.
