DURHAM, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a two-round score of 292-290-582 on Sunday to finish the first round of the Duke Classic with a four-stroke lead over Augusta State (292-294-586) and N.C. State (301-285-586). Virginia is tied for fourth with Wake Forest after finishing with rounds of 297-293-590 on the 7,104-yard, par-72 Duke Golf Club course. The final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday.

Brent Wanner of Wake Forest is the individual leader (75-65-140) with a two-shot advantage over Virginia’s Cameron Yancey (Blackstone, Va., 74-68-142), Virginia Tech’s Brendon DeJorge (69-73-142), Maryland’s Corey Brigham (72-70-142) and Duke’s Leif Olson (69-73-142).

Also competing in the tournament for Virginia are senior Mike Mitchell (Chevy Chase, Md., 73-74-147), junior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va., 72-81-153), sophomore Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn., 78-75-153), and junior Shivin Kwatra (New Delhi, India, 82-76-158).
