BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia fourth-year middle Deanna Zwarich (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) smashed 35 kills and hit an impressive .566 to lead the UVa volleyball team to a 3-1 (8-15, 15-7, 15-4, 15-12) win over Virginia Tech Saturday evening (October 21) at Cassell Coliseum. Zwarich also registered four blocks to become the first Virginia volleyball player to notch 100 or more blocks in each of her four collegiate seasons. With the win, the `Hoos improve to 11-11 on the season, while Virginia Tech falls to 9-15.

Zwarich drilled her 35 kills in 53 attempts with just five errors for the .566 hitting percentage. She also notched four blocks to increase her season total to 102, and in the process became the first UVa volleyball player to record 100 or more blocks four times. The 35 kills are the second-highest single match total in school history, only surpassed by her 40 kills against Duke on September 19. It marked the 19th consecutive match that Zwarich has reached double figures in kills.

Virginia first-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) also had an outstanding evening with 21 kills and 13 digs. Davis has now recorded 10-consecutive double-doubles and 16 on the season. First-year setter Abby Whittenburg (Amarillo, Texas/Amarillo) added 57 assists, while fourth-year outside hitter Katie Jones (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) and first-year outside hitter Whitney Ashcraft (Yorktown, Ind./Burris) contributed 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

Junior Holly Disser posted 17 kills to lead the Hokies. Sophomore Ana Lang chipped in with 13 kills and 15 digs.

The Cavaliers return to action on Tuesday, October 24 when they host ACC rival Maryland at University Hall at 7:30 p.m.
