TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – First-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) and fourth-year middle Deanna Zwarich (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) tallied 12 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead the Virginia volleyball team to a 3-1 (15-6, 11-15, 15-7, 15-3) victory over Florida A&M at Tully Gym at Florida State on Saturday (October 28). With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 13-12 on the season, while the Rattlerettes fall to 15-9.

Zwarich, who posted her 21st-consecutive double figure kill performance of the season, hit .450 in the match with 10 kills on 20 attempts with just one error. Zwarich increased her season kill total to 459, which is just one kill shy of third place on UVa’s single season kills list. With 1,412 career kills, Zwarich is also just one kill short of third place on Virginia’s all-time kills list. Zwarich added five blocks and three digs in the match against Florida A&M as well. Davis totaled 12 kills and 10 digs to extend her consecutive double-double streak to 13 matches. Fourth-year outside hitter Katie Jones (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) and third-year utility player Jenny Harmon (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) notched seven kills apiece. Jones also added match-highs of 13 digs and four service aces. First-year setter Abby Whittenburg (Amarillo, Texas/Amarillo) contributed 35 assists and five blocks to the Cavalier effort.

Shante Haymore led Florida A&M with 14 kills, while Rita Eckford added 11 kills. Setter Delisha Peterson notched 29 assists and nine digs for the Rattlerettes.

Virginia won the first game 15-6, but dropped the second game 15-11. The Cavaliers then posted a 15-7 win in the third game to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The `Hoos cruised to a 15-3 victory in the fourth game for the 3-1 win over the Rattlerettes.

The Cavaliers return to action on Friday, November 3 when they host ACC rival Clemson at 8:00 p.m. in University Hall.
