GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia fourth-year middle Deanna Zwarich (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) has been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week as announced Monday (November 6). Zwarich had a record setting weekend in leading the Cavaliers to a pair of conference victories at University Hall.

Zwarich led Virginia to a 3-0 (15-7, 16-14, 15-5) win over Clemson on Friday (November 3) and a 3-2 (10-15, 8-15, 15-2, 15-10, 15-12) come-from-behind victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday (November 4). She posted 5.13 kills and 1.50 digs per game in the two matches and extended her consecutive double-figure kill streak to 24 matches. With the two victories, the Cavaliers improve to 15-12 overall and 8-6 in the ACC.

In Virginia’s 3-2 win over Georgia Tech, Zwarich shined on UVa’s Senior Night as she set the single season school record for kills with her 21st of the match, which came in the fifth game, and 499th of her stellar career. Anne Marie Hammers held the previous Virginia single season kills record with 498, set in 1991. Zwarich finished the match with 22 kills and now has 500 on the season. Zwarich is also second on Virginia’s career kills list with 1,453, just 13 shy of surpassing Greta Jansson’s (1988-91) school record mark of 1,465. In addition to the 22 kills, Zwarich added 11 digs and six blocks against the Yellow Jackets.

Zwarich began the week with a 19-kill performance in UVa’s 3-0 win over Clemson on Friday. In the match, she posted a .394 hitting percentage (19 kills, six errors on 33 attempts).

In addition to setting the single season school kills record, Zwarich holds the top two single match kill totals as well. She slammed 40 kills in UVa’s 3-2 win over Duke on September 19 and had 35 kills in a 3-1 win over Virginia Tech on October 21. Earlier this season, Zwarich also became the first UVa volleyball player to amass 100 or more blocks all four seasons. She currently has a career-high total of 124 blocks in 2000 and stands fourth all-time in career blocks with 441.

It marks the second time this season that Zwarich has earned ACC Player of the Week honors. She was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week on October 23.

The Cavaliers return to action on Friday, November 10 when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a 7:00 p.m. match at Wake Forest.
