Virginia's Ryan Gibbs Named ACC Co-Player of the Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia men’s soccer player Ryan Gibbs (West Chester, Pa./East) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week after helping the Cavaliers post a 2-0 victory over Maryland (11/3/00) in UVa’s final regular season game of the year. Gibbs, a two-time nominee of the honor this season, shared this weeks honor with Duke’s Ali Curtis.
Playing as a sophomore forward for UVa, Gibbs scored the game-winning goal for Virginia against Maryland at the 63:13 mark of the game. His goal helped Virginia finish the regular season with a record of 13-4-1 overall, 5-1-0 in the ACC. For the season, Gibbs has started 10 of the 15 games he has appeared in. He is second of the team with 21 points resulting from nine goals (second on the team) and three assists. Four of his goals and two of his assists this season have been game-winners. For his career, Gibbs has scored 41 points with 17 goals and seven assists. He has six career game-winning goals and three career game-winning assists.
Gibbs joins teammate Alecko Eskandarian (Montvale, NJ/Bergen Catholic) as Virginia’s ACC Player of the Week selections this season. Gibbs’ was also tabbed ACC Co-Player of the Week on September 18th, while Eskandarian gathered the honor for the week of September 4th.
