Clear Channel Stations Join The Virginia Sports Radio Network

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Cavalier Sports Marketing, the Marketing and Broadcast partner for University of Virginia Athletics, has announced an agreement with the Clear Channel Communications family of radio stations in the Northern Virginia and Maryland area. WTEM 980 AM, WWRC 570 AM, and WGAY 1260 AM will broadcast Cavalier men’s basketball games for the 2000-2001 season.
The agreement with the Clear Channel stations will provide UVa fans in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. Metro area with access to the play-by-play broadcasts of all 27 regular season games. WGAY 1260 AM will also carry Virginia’s quarterfinal game in the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, while WTEM 980 AM will carry the ACC Tournament semifinals and ACC Championship game regardless if UVa is involved. In addition, the Clear Channel family will carry all games of any postseason tournament that extends an invitation to the Cavaliers. WTEM 980 AM will carry eight regular season games and the ACC Tournament semifinals and Championship game. WWRC 570 AM will carry six regular season games and WGAY 1260 AM will carry the remainder of the schedule.
Adding WTEM 980, WWRC 570, and WGAY 1260 to its affiliate list provides the Virginia Sports Radio Network with a valuable broadcast partner and adds to the overall mission of the network to bring Virginia games to all Cavalier fans.
As a reminder, all Virginia men’s and women’s basketball play-by-play broadcasts and Cavalier Call-In broadcasts (Monday evenings at 7:06 p.m.) are available worldwide on the official internet site for Virginia Athletics, virginiasports.com.
