Charlottesville, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s tennis team begins its 2001 Spring season Saturday (Feb. 17) when the Cavaliers travel to Old Dominion. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.

The Cavaliers’ probable starting lineup features two-time All-American Brian Vahaly (Atlanta, Ga./ The Lovett School) at No. 1 singles. The fourth-year advanced to the finals of the first two legs of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Grand Slam in the fall and is primed for a run at an NCAA title this spring. At #2 singles, the `Hoos have another experienced player in fourth-year Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./ Chapel Hill). Fourth-year Tommy Croker (Alexandria, Va./ St. Stephens) will play at No. 3, while second-year Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy), the only underclassman in the starting lineup, will play No. 4. Fourth-year Brian Hunter (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and third-year Jason Romesburg (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) round out Virginia’s top six.

In doubles, the nation’s No. 3 doubles team of Vahaly and Montgoemry will play No. 1, while fourth-years Croker and Hunter will play at No. 2. Duquette and third-year Jonathan Chou (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) will team up at No. 3.
