Blacksburg, Va. – Virginia’s Naccole Guinn (Alexandria, Va. /Thomas Jefferson) won the ACC title in the triple jump and in the process set a Virginia record, becoming the first Cavalier to leap over 43 feet indoors, going 43′ 1.5″ (13.14m). Her win breaks a nine-year stranglehold on the event by Tar Heel athletes. The Cavalier women finished fourth overall at the ACC Indoor Championships with 80 points, while the men took sixth with 68 points.

Guinn’s teammate Curtrell Frye (Columbia, S.C. /Irmo) also placed in the triple jump, leaping 12.18m (39′ 11.5″), taking fourth place. The Cavaliers had a number of events in which they had multiple scorers, including the weight throw. Eliese Mitchell (Narvon, Pa./Garden Spot) took third in the weight with a toss of 18.02m (59′ 1.5″) while Hilary Wilson (East Claridon, Ohio/Hawken-Manchester) threw 15.84m (51′ 11.75″) for seventh place. Teammate Cary Chandler (Mechanicsville, Va. /Lee-Davis) finished just above him in fourth in a time of 8.03.

The Cavalier men took three places in the mile run, more than any other school, thanks to a 3-6-8 finish led by Steve Gross (Port Matilda, Pa./State College), who took third with a time of 4:12.64.
