Feb. 17, 2001
Blacksburg, Va. – Virginia’s Naccole Guinn (Alexandria, Va. /Thomas Jefferson) won the ACC title in the triple jump and in the process set a Virginia record, becoming the first Cavalier to leap over 43 feet indoors, going 43′ 1.5″ (13.14m). Her win breaks a nine-year stranglehold on the event by Tar Heel athletes. The Cavalier women finished fourth overall at the ACC Indoor Championships with 80 points, while the men took sixth with 68 points.
Guinn’s teammate Curtrell Frye (Columbia, S.C. /Irmo) also placed in the triple jump, leaping 12.18m (39′ 11.5″), taking fourth place.
