CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The # 54 University of Virginia women’s tennis team fell to #37 Georgia Tech, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon (April 1) at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville. The match was moved indoors due to inclement weather in the Charlottesville area.

The Yellow Jackets won the doubles point by defeating UVa at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Virginia’s Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas/Memorial) and Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) beat Tech’s Kristen Roberson and Bobbie Guthrie 8-2 at No. 1.

Schweer and Williams were the only Cavaliers to win their singles matches as well. Williams outlasted Jaime Wong at No. 2 singles, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5, in the day’s longest match. Schweer, meanwhile, got past Guthrie at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

With the loss, Virginia falls to 12-5 overall and 1-1 in the ACC. UVa will take on Maryland on Wednesday (April 4) in another ACC matchup, before heading to North Carolina for a pair of matches against UNC and Duke next weekend (April 7-8).
