Virginia's Young Named ACC And SASA Player Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia softball player Meg Young (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southern Atlantic Softball Alliance Player of the Week after leading the Cavaliers to an 8-0 week. Young, who was also named the ACC Player of the Week on March 26, batted .556 and set several Virginia single season records during the past week.

Young, a fourth-year right fielder, went 15 for 27 (.556 batting average) in the Cavaliers’ eight victories. She hit three doubles and three triples, drove in six runs and scored nine times. Young had at least two hits in six of UVa’s eight games. She was four for four with three RBI and two runs in the Cavaliers’ 11-4 win in the second game of a doubleheader over Elon (April 18).

During the week, Young established new single season school records for hits (77), runs (48), and total bases (113), breaking her own marks for hits (67) and total bases (103) in a season. She also tied the school record for triples with the 23rd of her career. Young also holds eight career softball records at UVa, including hits (274), at-bats (853), total bases (392), runs (140), doubles (51), triples (23), stolen bases (50), and games played (252).

On the season, Young is hitting a career best .379 (72-203) with 17 doubles, five triples and three home runs. She has a slugging percentage of .557 and an on-base percentage of .440. Young has also driven in 27 runs, walked 19 times and stolen 22 bases, all of which are career highs.

Virginia stands at 47-13 on the season and has won 10 consecutive games. The Cavaliers are 4-2 in the ACC. UVa returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 when it travels to Salem, Va. for a 6:00 p.m. doubleheader against Virginia Tech.
