Dana Coons (Vienna, Va./James Madison), the ACC Champion in the 10000-meter run, took the bronze in the Stanford Invitational this weekend, coming in with a 34:24.72. While her time just misses the NCAA Automatic qualifying standard, Coons improves her NCAA provisional qualifying time by 21 seconds.

Coons’ time is the eighth fastest time in school history and the fastest time since Patty Matava set the school record at the Penn Relays in 1987. At the ACC Championships in Orlando, Fla., Coons won the 10000-meter run on Friday night and doubled back on Saturday to take second in the 5000-meter run, also in an NCAA Provisional qualifying time.
