Men's lacrosse #8 seed in NCAA Tournament

Charlottesville, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s lacrosse team is the eighth seed in the 12-team field for the 2001 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championships. This is the ninth consecutive season the Cavaliers have received a bid to the national playoffs and the 25th berth in school history.
The Cavaliers, 7-6 overall this season, face Hofstra on Sunday (May 13) in a first round game at the United States Military Academy (Army) at approximately 2:45 p.m. The Pride is 9-6 overall this season and lost to Towson 13-11 in the finals of the America East tournament on Saturday.
Notre Dame and Bucknell play the first game of the playoff doubleheader at noon. The Cavaliers’ game follows 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
The Cavaliers haven’t played Hofstra since dropping a 7-6 decision in overtime in 1993. The two teams have met once before in the NCAA Tournament. In 1973 Virginia defeated the Pride 12-5 in a quarterfinal match-up.

No. 7 Loyola (9-3) vs. Georgetown (11-2) 45 minutes after conclusion of first game
May 13 (at Army)–No. 5 Notre Dame (12-1) vs. Bucknell (10-3) at noon,
No. 8 Virginia (7-6) vs. Hofstra (9-6) 45 minutes after conclusion of first game
Quarterfinals:May 19 (at Hofstra)–No. 1 Syracuse (11-2) vs. winner of Virginia/Hofstra
and No. 4 Johns Hopkins (8-3) vs. winner of Notre Dame/Bucknell
May 20 (at Maryland)–No. 2 Princeton (11-1) vs. winner of Loyola/Georgetown
and No. 3 Maryland (12-2) vs. winner of Towson/Duke
Semifinals:May 26 (at Rutgers)–Game 1 at noon, game 2 is 45 minutes after conclusion of first game
Finals:May 28 (at Rutgers) at 11:00 a.m.
