GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Virginia softball team is the third seed in the 10th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Tournament which will be held May 11-13 at Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C. The Cavaliers (51-15, 4-4 ACC) begin play in the five-team, double elimination tournament when they play second-seeded North Carolina (34-17-1, 6-2 ACC) in the second game of the tourney on Friday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m.

Florida State (52-8, 7-1 ACC), ranked 17th in the nation, is the top seed, while Georgia Tech (24-27, 2-6 ACC) is the fourth seed. Maryland (37-21, 1-7 ACC) is the fifth seed.

With a win in the first game against North Carolina, UVa would move to the winners bracket and play on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. A loss would move Virginia into the lower half of the bracket and it would play on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Cavaliers were the fourth seed in the tournament the past three years and advanced to the championship game each of those seasons. Virginia has played in the championship game of the ACC tournament six times in the nine-year history of the tournament. The ‘Hoos won the 1994 ACC Tournament by defeating Florida State 3-0 in the title game.
