UVA's Steve Marino Qualifies For U.S. Amateur Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia golfer Steve Marino and former UVa golfer Cameron Yancey qualified recently for the 2001 United States Amateur Championship Tournament.
Marino qualified with rounds of 67 and 69 for an eight-under-par total of 136 at the Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, Va. He is from Fairfax, Va., and will be a senior at UVa this fall.
Yancey, from Blackstone, Va., qualified with rounds of 71 and 67 for a two-under-par total of 138 at the James River Country Club in Newport News, Va.
Former Virginia golfer James Driscoll is also in the field for the 2001 United States Amateur Championship. He finished second in the tournament last year and is exempt from qualifying this year.
The 2001 United States Amateur Championship Tournament is scheduled for August 20-26 in Atlanta, Ga.
