BEIJING, China – University of Virginia swimmer Gary Marshall (Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville) finished 10th in the semifinals of the 200-meter breaststroke at the World University Games Thursday (August 23) and did not advance to Friday’s final.

Marshall, the 2001 ACC champion in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, clocked a time of 2:17.85 to finish 10th in the semifinals of the 200-meter breaststroke and missed advancing to the eight-man final by 25 hundredths of a second. In the preliminaries, Marshall touched in 2:18.98 which was the also the 10th fastest time of the prelims.

Virginia men’s and women’s head swimming coach Mark Bernardino is serving as the head coach of the USA’s men’s World University Games team.
