GREENSBORO, N.C. –

University of Virginia forward J.C. Mathis has been selected to the 2000-01 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Basketball team as announced Thursday (August 23). Criteria for selection to the team is a combination of GPA (minimum of a 3.0 GPA) and athletic performance.

Mathis, from the Bronx, N.Y., played in all 29 of the Cavaliers’ games last season and averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He also averaged 11.9 minutes per game. Mathis, who will be a sophomore at Virginia this fall, was one of 211 UVa student-athletes selected to the 2000-01 ACC Academic Honor Roll.

The other 10 members of the 2000-01 All-ACC Academic Basketball team, which has been selected since 1992-63, are: David Anderson (Florida State), Pasha Bains (Clemson), Shane Battier (Duke), Mike Dunleavy (Duke), Broderick Hicks (Wake Forest), Will Johnson (North Carolina), Marvin Lewis (Georgia Tech), Mike Mardesich (Maryland), Byron Mouton (Maryland), and Darius Songaila (Wake Forest).
