WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Fourth-year outside hitter Jenny Harmon (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) equaled her career high with 21 kills and added 13 digs to lead the University of Virginia volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-28, 25-30, 30-28, 30-25) win over Davidson Friday evening (September 7) in first-day action at the William & Mary Hi-IQ Classic. With the victory, UVa improves to 3-2 on the season, while Davidson falls to 2-3.

Harmon led four Cavaliers in double figures in kills with her match-high 21 kills. She also hit an impressive .538 (21 kills, 0 errors, 39 attempts) and added 13 digs for her first double-double of the season. Second-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) and second-year middle Shannon Boyle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) both tallied 15 kills with Davis adding a match-high 20 digs for her first double-double of the season. Boyle also contributed a match-high six blocks to the Cavalier victory. Third-year middle Simona Kuipers (Bow Island, Alberta, Canada) rounded out the Virginia players in double figures in kills with 13, which equals her career high. Second-year setter Abby Whittenburg (Amarillo, Texas/Amarillo) registered 42 assists and nine digs, while second-year outside hitter Whitney Ashcraft (Yorktown, Ind./Burris) posted 14 digs and three service aces.

Junior outside hitter Becky Teichgraeber and senior outside hitter Jacqueline Ortega recorded double-doubles for Davidson. Teichgraeber notched 14 kills and 14 digs, while Ortega had 12 kills, 11 digs and added four service aces.

The Cavaliers hit a season high .344 in the match, committing only 15 hitting errors while recording 77 kills in 180 attempts. Davidson hit .195 in the contest. UVa also held a slight edge in digs, 74-70. The Wildcats had a 16-7 advantage in service aces.

The Cavaliers continue play in the Hi-IQ Classic with a pair of matches Saturday. UVa plays Columbia at 10:00 a.m. and host William & Mary at 6:30 p.m.
